Dionne Warwick’s Words To Live By

“If you can think it, you can do it!” With a life filled with accomplishment and achievement, Dionne Warwick can proudly say that she has always believed in — and lived by — those words of wisdom and now she’s passing on that wisdom in her first children’s book.

The American icon and international superstar has created an inspiring and entertaining picture book, “Say A Little Prayer”, which encourages kids to find their best talent in life and embrace it, just as she did.

“Say A Little Prayer” heroine “Little D” is ambling through childhood like any other kid – enjoying her family and neighbors, her pet dog, her hobbies, and school – when one day she discovers that she has a special talent. In her first-ever singing performance in front of an audience, Little D brings the house down. And she discovers, with her grandfather’s encouragement, that everyone has a special talent and it’s up to each person to find it, embrace it, perfect it, and enjoy it!

The book also features an original new recording of the gospel song “Jesus Loves Me” – the first song young Dionne performed before an audience, as told in the book – as well as a dramatic reading of the book by Warwick.

She reflected back on that first performance before singing “Jesus Loves Me” on The Early Show.

“I was terrified,” Warwick told Early show co-anchor Harry Smith. “I closed my eyes real tight and I started singing and when I summoned up enough courage, I opened one eye to see what they were doing. And saw, you know, that there were smiles and they were encouraging and I kind of bolted up and sang the song.”

“What message do you want this book to send to children as they look at it with their parents?” Smith asked.

“Simply put, I think what my mantra is, and my grandfather gave me this,” Warwick said. “He said always, ‘If you can think it, you can do it.’ I want them to feel their dream is very, very important and follow it and be inspired to do so.”
